Sheriff’s deputies found multiple dead roosters on a property in Crosby on Saturday night after responding to a report of possible animal fighting, officials said.
The deputies responded to the 4200 block of Danek Road, where they encountered “a large number of roosters, including dead ones,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a social media post on X at about 6:30 p.m. Department detectives were on their way to the scene, Gonzalez said.
The sheriff’s department did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
Law enforcement officials have busted alleged illegal cockfighting rings in recent months, including at a property near Aldine earlier this month, where officials said they found about 70 roosters and detained four people.
