HAZLETON, Pa. — While some are resting and recovering after their New Year’s celebrations, others are getting a head start on their resolutions—pumping some iron at Iron House Gym in Hazleton.
“Get to the gym five, six days a week, work hard, set reasonable attainable goals, getting older, so I’m trying to cut back a little bit, lose a little weight, stay strong, stay in shape,” said Michael Scatton of Drums.
During the first week or two of the new year, some new, fresh faces might be showing up, eager to accomplish their fitness goals.
“Come in with a plan, don’t come in and think you’re going to be bench pressing 300lbs, and squatting 400, 500 lbs overnight, you’re not gonna be Arnold Schwarzenegger overnight; come in with a plan, work each body part, do your cardio, this is a long-term thing, this is a marathon not a race,” explained Scatton.
Gym-goers tell us the hardest part is consistency—walking through the door when you don’t feel like it, are tired, or have little to no motivation.
“Come three days a week, for an hour, that’s the thing, people think it’s so difficult, I have no time, but honestly, you have time, 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week, make it work,” said Jeremy Stock of Hazleton.
While some gym-goers have been working out for many years, they understand that coming to the gym can be intimidating—but don’t be afraid to ask for help.
“Surround yourself with good people, always find people that have the same goals as you, everyone here’s friendly, which is awesome, good people is honestly the best advice I can give anyone,” said Stock.
The biggest thing is keeping those resolutions going throughout the entire year.
