Arsenal spent huge sums once again this past summer and right now, it looks like it’s going to pay off as they march towards the Premier League title.

There is still plenty of football to be played this year but in terms of form and improvement over the season, Mikel Arteta’s charges are looking a good bet to come out on top.

The Gunners made big moves to sign Ebere Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and more in an outlay of just shy of £300m.

Of course, with such a big squad, some of those players are needing to be patient and over the course of the campaign, have had to accept being in and out of the first XI at times.

Nevertheless, former Everton midfielder and now BBC pundit, Leon Osman, believes Arsenal have made the best signing of the season among those players.

Leon Osman names Arsenal midfielder as the best summer signing

There was so much transfer talk over the summer and really, Arsenal did so well to land the players they did.

One of the top names they managed to pip other clubs to was England midfielder, Eberechi Eze.

The former Crystal Palace man was wanted by nearly every top team in the land but in the end, Arsenal paid the £60m needed to get him away from Selhurst Park.

And according to Osman, the signing of Eze has been the best of the entire season.

“Eberechi Eze. I think he’s an incredible player,” Osman admitted.

“I think it’s a statement signing from Arsenal of intent. I also think it goes down really well when you take a high profile target from your direct rivals.”

Eberechi Eze picked ahead of Granit Xhaka

Like most of these sort of debate, the question of signing of the season is very subjective.

However, it is interesting that Osman opted to go with Eze as his pick, given his fellow pundits honed in on former Arsenal man, Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka has been instrumental in Sunderland’s brilliant campaign so far and both Ashley Williams and Chris Sutton picked the Swiss star as their top signing.

It is interesting to see Xhaka doing so well with the Black Cats. For so long, he was the one many Arsenal fans lamented but right now, he’s one of the best midfielders in the entire league, if not Europe.

Sure enough, the signing of Eze has been outstanding but it is good to see Xhaka doing so well and come the season’s end, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both Xhaka and Eze included in end of year teams.
