As expected, Seven Mountains Media’s former Hot AC “Pop Radio 93.5” 1490 WKYW/93.5 W228CL Frankfort KY flipped to Classic Rock “93.5 The Goat” at 10am.
The flip gives Frankfort a locally originating Classic Rocker to compete with iHeartMedia’s 100.1 WKQQ Winchester and Cumulus Media’s “Z-Rock 103” WXZZ Georgetown, which both target the larger Lexington market.
The new Goat, which joins the company’s similarly branded stations in Bowling Green KY, Olean NY, and Parkersburg WV, will feature Compass Media Networks’ Free Beer & Hot Wings in mornings. Chris Randolph will host middays and Brett ‘Tractor’ Waford in afternoons. Waford previously served as PD/afternoon host at sister Country “Froggy 101.7/104.9” WFKY Frankfort/WVKY Shelbyville until last March. Compass’ “Ultimate Classic Rock” hosted by Matt Wardlaw anchors nights.

WKYW has been airing Christmas music as “North Pole Radio” since Thanksgiving week. Earlier today it renamed its Facebook page as “93.5 The Goat” and has begun teasing the new identity, which will match similarly branded stations the company operates in Bowling Green KY, Olean NY, and Parkersburg WV.
