Real Madrid have taken another step in their ongoing efforts to improve player care by restoring Niko Mihic to a prominent position within the club’s medical structure.

The Croatian doctor, who previously led the first team’s medical department from 2017 to 2023, will now serve as medical supervisor across all sections of Real Madrid, including the first team. While Mihic never fully severed ties with the club, his new role places him back at the heart of Madrid’s day-to-day medical operations.

Under the updated structure, Mihic will oversee the work of the first-team medical staff, who will continue to operate under the direct leadership of Felipe Segura. COPE first reported Mihic’s return to a frontline role on Sunday, a move that has since been confirmed as part of a broader internal reorganization aimed at raising standards in athlete health and performance.

The decision comes against the backdrop of mounting injury concerns. Over the past two seasons, Real Madrid have endured an unusually high number of injuries, including multiple anterior cruciate ligament tears that have significantly disrupted squad continuity and long-term planning.

Mihic’s return is seen as an attempt to address those issues at a structural level rather than through short-term fixes. During his time away from the spotlight, the Croatian doctor remained connected to the club in an advisory capacity while also pursuing work in private practice and academia.

By placing Mihic in a supervisory role that spans all departments, Real Madrid are aiming to improve coordination, prevention strategies, and recovery protocols throughout the club. The move reflects a broader institutional belief that optimizing the medical environment is essential to sustaining elite performance over the course of increasingly demanding seasons.
