GRANITE QUARRY — A home was damaged by a fire in Granite Quarry Monday night, but firefighters were able to rescue a dog from the home and officials said nobody was injured.
Firefighters were dispatched to a reported garage fire in the 700 block of South Salisbury Avenue at approximately 10:08 p.m., said Granite Quarry Assistant Fire Chief Jake Chambers on scene. A Granite Quarry engine reportedly arrived on scene shortly after and found heavy fire showing from an attached garage.
Chambers said all of the residents of the home were able to escape the building before firefighters arrived.
When they arrived on scene, Chambers said firefighters “immediately laid an attack line to get water on the fire” and were able to get a knockdown on the flames within 10 minutes. They were also able to locate a dog inside of the home and rescue it uninjured, he said.
Firefighters were reportedly able to contain the fire to the garage, but the remainder of the home did suffer smoke damage.
Chambers praised the work of Granite Quarry firefighters and the firefighters from nearby departments that provided mutual aid. Departments that assisted Granite Quarry include Rockwell, Faith, Rockwell Rural, South Salisbury, Union, Salisbury and Bostian Heights fire departments along with Rowan County EMS and Rowan Rescue Squad.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office.
