NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets (11-23) were coming off one of their better wins on Sunday over the Denver Nuggets and the Nets had the chance of extending their winning streak to two games. With the Orlando Magic (21-17) coming to town on the second night of a back-to-back, Brooklyn had a solid chance of pulling off the win until victory was snatched away from them at the last second.
The Nets lost to the Magic on Wednesday, 104-103, in overtime in a game where Brooklyn came back from an 18-point deficit to force the game into overtime. Forward Michael Porter Jr. had 34 points and five rebounds while rookie guard Egor Demin had 18 points (all in the fourth quarter and overtime), five rebounds, and five assists in a rollercoaster of a game.

The Nets thought they had a win when Demin hit his last three of the game before Magic forward Paolo Banchero, who finished the game with 30 points and 14 rebounds, including the buzzer-beating three-pointer in overtime. Despite the loss, Brooklyn showed a lot to be able to come back into the game so here are three takeaways from Friday’s overtime loss to the Magic:
Michael Porter Jr.’s Scoring Binge Continues
Porter dropped another 34 points against a Magic defense that was focusing on stopping him throughout the entire game and his consistent scoring provided Brooklyn with the chance to come back from an 18-point deficit in the second half. Porter, who could make his first All-Star appearance this season, has scored at least 24 points in each of the last seven games, showing how dependable he has been for the Nets’ offense.
Egor Demin Comes Up Clutch
Demin had one of the more interesting games of his rookie season as he didn’t score in the first three quarters before pouring in eight points in the fourth quarter and 10 points in overtime. Demin finished the game with an impressive statline of 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block in 32 minutes, including being clutch for Brooklyn when the lights became bright.

Nets Lose First Overtime Of The Season
The Nets played their first overtime game of the season after making their comeback from an 18-point deficit and the way they were able to do so was finally locking down on the defensive end of the floor. Over the course of the fourth quarter where Brooklyn won the period 29-14, they held the Magic to just 30.0% shooting from the field while also dominating the glass at the same time.
