Manchester United’s upcoming FA Cup clash with Brighton is a perfect opportunity for academy wonderkid JJ Gabriel to make his breakthrough.

Following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Burnley, Darren Fletcher confirmed that he will remain in charge of the Red Devils this weekend.

Shea Lacey starred at Turf Moor after coming off the bench for a short cameo, and another promising academy storyline is developing ahead of the Brighton match.

What should Darren Fletcher change for the next game, and what should he keep the same?

JJ Gabriel is United’s most promising talent, and at just 15 years old, it’s scary to think of his potential.

The current Premier League rules mean that JJ Gabriel is currently ineligible to play for United’s first team until the 2026/27 season.

However, the FA Cup rules would allow Gabriel to make his first-team debut at Old Trafford. According to The Mirror, the teenage star is in contention to make the matchday squad.

Gabriel’s record in United’s academy is nothing short of astonishing, but Fletcher doesn’t need to be told that.

Before stepping up to take interim charge, Fletcher was United’s Under-18s manager, where he worked closely with Gabriel. Gabriel scored a hat-trick against Liverpool U18s under Fletcher’s management.

Jonny Evans joined Fletcher’s backroom staff, as have under-21s coach Travis Binnion and under-21s assistant Alan Wright, who will also be well aware of Gabriel’s talents.

Everything lines up perfectly for the teenage wonderkid to make an appearance.

What to expect from JJ Gabriel

Gabriel has become a well-known name among United supporters because of the excitement around his talent, but many fans may well watch him in action for the first time at Old Trafford this weekend.

In terms of his style of play, Gabriel has been compared to Lionel Messi, not only because of his stature but also because of his incredible dribbling and technical ability.

Gabriel predominantly plays as a centre-forward, although he has spent time out wide and also as a false nine.

If he does make an appearance against Brighton, Gabriel would become United’s youngest-ever player at 15 years old.

What he lacks in his physicality, Gabriel certainly makes up for with his silky dribbling, eye for a pass and precise finishing.
