For the second night running, Manchester United’s complete attention has been directed towards Morocco and the AFCON quarter-finals.

On Friday night, Bryan Mbeumo’s AFCON dream came to a crushing end as Cameroon were beaten by host nation Morocco, with Noussair Mazraoui heading to the semi-finals.

Mbeumo sent a classy message to Mazraoui after the game, and now on Saturday, it was Amad’s Ivory Coast side who were seeking a spot in the semi-finals.

Coming up against a strong Egyptian side led by Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, the Ivory Coast were beaten, losing 3-2 on the night.

The dynamic wing duo of Amad and United target Yan Diomande were far from their most dangerous, and as a result Ivory Coast are out despite being the better team on the night.

As a result, Amad will be back for Manchester United in the derby against City next weekend.

DOES Amad start for Manchester United with his wing-back role gone? If so, where?🤔

Amad set for Manchester United return

Like Mbeumo, Amad has been a big miss for United over the past few weeks, creating a big gap in quality and creativity down the right.

However, Amad returns to a very different club from the one he left for Morocco in December.

Amad will know his wing-back role is now gone and that he will probably be competing with Mbeumo for the starting right winger berth.

Speaking with beIN Sports on Friday, Amad reacted to United’s sacking of Amorim.

“It was a tough topic. I was a bit sad because he’s the coach who gave me more visibility and more opportunities to play for Manchester United. I was very sad. I even sent him a message to thank him for everything he did for me, both in my life and especially in my career.

“I wished him good luck wherever he goes.

“We had a very good relationship, almost like a father-and-son relationship. He understood me, gave me a lot of advice, and let me play freely. It’s very unfortunate, but that’s life. You have to adapt; that’s football.

“I wish him all the best in life and in his next club. My next focus is Ivory Coast. I have to give everything for the country.”

Amad became a star under Amorim, and he is now too good to be ignored by the next manager.
