CHICKASHA, Okla. –
A spokesperson with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said RJ Davis, who has been missing since Jan. 2, has been found safe.
OSBI’s Hunter McKee said Davis was found in Chickasha Sunday afternoon.
McKee said the United Cajun Navy group made contact with RJ and took him back to the hotel, where authorities processed him and took him to the hospital. Authorities said RJ appears to be fine physically.
How the United Cajun Navy helped locate missing Oklahoma boy
News 9 spoke with Josh Gill, the incident commander for the United Cajun Navy Sunday afternoon. Gill said about 10 members of his team travelled from Texas to Chickasha on Saturday to help look for RJ. Members of this team also worked to find victims in the Hill Country floods that happened in July in central Texas.
After searching for about three hours on Sunday, two men from the United Cajun Navy team found RJ hiding about a mile from the Quality Inn in Chickasha. According to Gill, his team members said RJ was scared when they found him.
Once the men assured RJ that he was safe, Gill said the boy gave his team members a big hug.
Gill said he is extremely proud of his team and that the next concern is how the community can make sure RJ is taken care of.
Missing boy’s parents arrested
Davis’s parents were arrested when he was still missing.
Investigators interviewed RJ’s mother, Kimberly Cole, and stepfather, George Cole. Both were arrested on multiple child and sexual abuse charges. Authorities said the boy suffered harm at the hands of both caregivers, but did not disclose the details of the abuse.
McKee, with the OSBI, Last week, said the home where RJ lived in Cement was “very clearly not a safe environment for this child.”
Chickasha Police Chief Goebel Music stressed that RJ will not be returned to that home if found.
RJ’s parents remain in custody in Caddo County.
