Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has offered his verdict on Marcus Rashford’s move to the Nou Camp from Manchester United. The 27-year-old finalised a season-long loan move to Hansi Flick’s side this week.
Barcelona will be footing the bill for Rashford‘s wages during his stint in Catalonia, a move which is projected to save United approximately £12million. The La Liga champions also have the option to make his move permanent.
United delayed Rashford’s return to Carrington for pre-season training earlier this month and stripped him of his iconic No.10 shirt. However, he has now secured his dream transfer to Barcelona, after spending the latter half of the 2024/2025 season on loan at Aston Villa.
And Lewandowski has, now, become the first Barcelona player to publicly express his feelings about Rashford’s move to the club. The Poland star faced United’s academy graduate in the Europa League knock-out stages two years ago, when the Old Trafford giants beat Barca 4-3 on aggregate.
“Rashford is a very talented player,” he said via TNT Sports ahead of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
“We played Manchester United two years ago and he was in great form.
“He can help us and is able to play in different positions.”
Rashford found himself in search of a new club this summer after Villa decided against a permanent deal, while the forward was keen to return to Champions League football. Despite only netting six times in the Premier League last season, Rashford regained some form during his stint in Birmingham, earning him a first England call-up since March 2024 under Thomas Tuchel.
In pursuit of a move to Barcelona this summer, Rashford sought counsel from the AC Talent agency, known for its roster of Spanish clients. The Catalans have been strongly linked with Rashford – and a switch to La Liga has put an end to his late-afternoon solo training sessions at Carrington.
Tensions arose between head coach Ruben Amorim and Rashford in mid-December when the academy graduate was left out of the squad for the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.
Rashford’s last appearance for United was against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12.
