A 60-homer season and one of best nicknames in all of sports made Seattle Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh a household name, so much so that he was recently featured on one of the country’s most popular game shows.
Raleigh became something that many aspire to be: the answer to a clue on “Jeopardy!” More specifically, Raleigh was a part of the clue and his “Big Dumper” nickname was the answer.

“Referring to his physique, it’s the nickname of Cal Raleigh, the new record holder for home runs in a season by a catcher,” said host Ken Jennings, an Edmonds native, while reading the $600 clue for the “All Kinds of Sports” category during a recent episode of the long-running game show.
Anybody who has watched “Jeopardy!” before knows the contestants are smart, but they aren’t always the most knowledgeable about sports.
The sports categories can lead to some of the show’s funniest moments, like this viral clip when all three contestants failed to even attempt to answer any of the five questions for a “Talkin’ Football” category during a 2018 episode. The fourth non-answer prompted the former longtime host Alex Trebek to say “let’s look at the $1,000 clue, just for the fun of it,” before reading the final clue and following with “if you guys ring in and get this one, I will die.”
But to the credit of Friday’s contestants, they were able correctly answer “Big Dumper” in quick fashion.
