Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse defensive end DeAngelo Thompson has entered the transfer portal, his agent told ESPN.

Thompson appeared in four games for the Orange as a true freshman in 2025.

Before joining Syracuse, Thompson had 10 sacks in six games as a senior at Miami Northwestern High School. He was a three-star recruit who flipped his commitment to Syracuse from Florida Atlanta.

Thompson joins fellow defensive lineman and Miami Northwestern player Eric Thomas in the transfer portal.

They’re leaving Central New York ahead of a season that will feature four Miami Northwestern players on the roster, highlighted by five-star freshman wide receiver Calvin Russell.

Syracuse remains thin at defensive end for 2026. The Orange has just four scholarship players on the edge as the spring semester begins.

Jamie Tremble had the most sacks in 2025 of any returning player with just three. As a team, Syracuse collected with just 20 sacks.

Syracuse did, however, add Tennessee-Martin’s Keyshawn Johnson in the transfer portal. Johnson had 13.5 sacks for the Skyhawks.

There is still time for Syracuse to upgrade its roster. Players have until Friday to enter the transfer portal and can sign with a program at any point.
