First-round action at the ATP Adelaide International concludes with seven intriguing matches on Day 2. Greek No. 1 Stefanos Tsitsipas will look to find form before the Australian Open. Who will advance?
ATP Adelaide Day 2 Predictions
Tristan Schoolkate vs Rinky Hijikata
Head-to-head: Hijikata 1-0 Schoolkate
Tristan Schoolkate is coming off his best year on the Challenger Tour. He won two titles and made his long-awaited top 100 debut. His 2026 season began in Brisbane, where he lost to James Duckworth in qualifying. Hijikata is returning to Adelaiade with quarterfinal points to defend. The 24-year-old has been ranked as high as No. 62 but has since fallen out of the top 100. He started the season with a second-round run in Brisbane. When it comes to superior movement and defensive instincts, Hijikata should come out on top.
Prediction: Hijikata in 2
Gabriel Diallo vs Andrea Vavassori
Head-to-head: first meeting
In the few matches that Vavassori has played in singles in the last 12 months, his level has been convincing. He defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in Rotterdam and nearly won his first career singles title at the Manama Challenger (lost to Mannarino in the final). He qualified for the Adelaide main draw with a pair of high-quality wins against the in-form Raphael Collignon and World No. 102 Thiago Agustin Tirante. That said, Diallo’s power advantage and depth should give him the edge in what should be a very tight battle.
Prediction: Diallo in 3
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Aleksandar Vukic
Head-to-head: Tsitsipas 1-0 Vukic
Tsitsipas showed very encouraging signs at the United Cup, which could point to a renewed intent and confidence. 2025 was a poor season on so many levels for the Greek superstar. He even contemplated retirement at one point after being plagued by a chronic back injury. Vukic is dangerous on quick courts and more so on home soil, where he won two qualifying matches last weekend. However, his record in the Adelaide main draw stands at 0-2, and with Tsitsipas having addressed some of the underlying issues affecting his game, Vukic is likely to go winless in this event.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 2
