CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland opens a two-game road swing Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN as the Cavs try to steady themselves against a 76ers team nearing full strength.

The matchup presents a familiar problem.

With Max Strus and Dean Wade still sidelined, Cleveland’s margin on the perimeter remains thin. That’s where Philadelphia can apply pressure.

Tyrese Maxey’s speed bends coverage, rookie VJ Edgecombe adds another live dribble threat and when Joel Embiid is available, everything orbits around his gravity inside. The Cavs have struggled containing ball handlers all season, and this backcourt has the juice to expose any hesitation, late switches or soft points of attack.

Context matters here.

Cleveland enters 22-19, staring down a three-game stretch that includes two against Philadelphia and a Monday visit from the reigning champion Thunder. Lose control and .500 is very much in play, a line that tends to force the hand of organization leaders — especially after the Cavs entered with such steep expectations.

The urgency is sharpened by how the Cavs arrive. Monday’s loss to a tanking Utah team registered as arguably their worst of the season, a night where energy, detail and edge all slipped at once. That should linger. Whether it fuels a more connected, more effort-driven response or compounds existing cracks is the question that begins to get answered Wednesday.
