LSU signed former Southern Cal quarterback Husan Longstreet, the school announced Wednesday, adding a former five-star recruit to the quarterback room as the Tigers rebuild the position before their first season under new head coach Lane Kiffin.
Longstreet was considered one of the top 20 players in the transfer portal regardless of position by multiple recruiting services, and he helped address LSU’s most pressing need by signing Wednesday. LSU did not have a scholarship quarterback returning next season, so within the past four days, it has also signed Arizona State redshirt sophomore Sam Leavitt and Elon redshirt freshman Landen Clark.
Longstreet spent his freshman year at USC as the backup to Jayden Maiava, only playing 44 snaps in four games. He completed 86.7% (13 of 15) of his passes for 103 yards and one touchdown in games against Missouri State and Georgia Southern. He also rushed 11 times for 76 yards and two scores, showing mobility that could make him an ideal fit for LSU’s offensive scheme. He has four more years of eligibility.
Longstreet, who’s 6-foot and 200 pounds, does not have experience, but there is potential. He was the No. 25 overall recruit and the fourth-best quarterback in the 2025 class coming out of Centennial High in Corona, California, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He entered the transfer portal on Thursday, and LSU quickly hosted him on a visit that began Saturday.
LSU had to find new quarterbacks after the position room was completely emptied at the end of the season. Fifth-year senior Garrett Nussmeier exhausted his eligibility, and sophomore Michael Van Buren and redshirt freshman Colin Hurley entered the transfer portal. Van Buren signed with South Florida, and Hurley transferred to Michigan.
Kiffin and his staff are in the process of rebuilding LSU’s offense, which averaged 22.8 points per game this season. Only a handful of starters are set to return, so LSU is assembling the largest transfer class the team has ever signed.
