A Wyandotte County sheriff’s deputy has died after a shooting Saturday afternoon.In a news conference, Kansas City, Kansas, police Chief Karl Oakman confirmed a Wyandotte County sheriff’s deputy suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting around 3 p.m. Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, died after he and a Kansas City, Kansas police officer responded to a home in the 2600 block of South 30th Street around 3:45 p.m. A woman had requested help moving out due to safety concerns, telling police that a man had threatened her friends with a gun.The deputy was rushed to an area hospital.The suspect, identified by the KBI as Shawn Harris, then barricaded himself inside the home.A standoff was ongoing for around two hours before the suspect came out of the home and was shot. There is no word yet on his condition. Police confirmed shortly after 8 p.m. that Ming died as a result of his injuries.He was a 9-year veteran of the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office. Harris was injured by gunfire was taken to the hospital after police arrested him. Oakman said authorities are still working to process the scene.
