Dundee Apartments residents still without consistent hot water after temporary fix fails

  • January 15, 2026

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Residents at the Dundee Apartments are back to having no hot water after an update last night that it had been restored turned out to be only a temporary fix.

The property owner said a plumber replaced some piping and now needs to bleed air out of the system. She expects another update tomorrow.

Months-long problem continues

The work happening this week comes after months of residents having intermittent hot water service. The issue was first reported in November, according to the property manager, who said they have been troubleshooting the problem since then.

One resident said he had gotten used to the cold showers and was more worried about his elderly neighbors.

City Councilman Danny Begley said the city recognizes staff are trying to fix the problem.

“Our inspector is working with the property owner, and I hope that they get this fixed immediately, but we’re giving them time because they got to order parts,” Begley said. “And it’s unfortunate that it has taken this long in order to solve this problem. It should have been fixed already.”

City councilman wants immediate action

Begley said he understands the situation is challenging but made it clear he wants it fixed.

“I don’t care how much money they got to spend to do that,” Begley said. “It’s incumbent upon them to have this working and hopefully that it’s done sooner rather than later because it’s been weeks and weeks. And to me, that’s unacceptable.”

The owner has given residents credits for monthly utility charges in November and December. They are also offering residents the option to break their leases.

If the issue doesn’t get fixed, the owner could face a fine or jail time. Begley said that would come with a citation issued by the city’s planning department.
