Apple might finally employ its patent-favorite liquid metal in larger quantities within the upcoming iPhone Fold if the latest tidbit is anything to go by.

Apple to precisely calibrate the iPhone Fold’s weight distribution by using a liquid metal hinge and a titanium body

According to the rumor-aggregating blog Yeux1122, the Apple iPhone Fold will feature a liquid metal hinge and a titanium body, with the combo offering improved strength and weight distribution.

Of course, this echoes a previous tidbit from the famous Apple-focused analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who had declared back in March 2025 that the iPhone Fold will leverage a liquid metal hinge for enhanced durability and to reduce the creases that inevitably form on foldable displays.

Do note that liquid metal has featured prominently in Apple’s patents over the years. However, due to the inherent difficulty in producing liquid metal components in large quantities, it has only featured in areas such as physical SIM card trays up till now.

If the latest rumor does pan out, it would indicate that Apple has managed to resolve the difficulties that had previously hampered the mass production of liquid metal.

This comes as Apple is also reportedly planning to apply a color filter onto the protective encapsulation layer of the iPhone Fold’s OLED panel, rendering the resulting displays lighter and much more efficient.

Meanwhile, the iPhone Fold’s star attraction is its seemingly crease-free display, with Samsung recently showcasing one such panel at the just-concluded CES 2026.

Do note that Apple was previously said to have run into issues with various iterations of the Ultra-thin Flexible Glass (UFG) tech that it was testing to achieve a crease-free look.

Samsung’s approach, however, is reportedly quite simple: a metal plate sits just beneath the foldable OLED panel, with the perforations within the plate serving to distribute the overall pressure in a slightly different manner each time the display is folded. This prevents a concentration of pressure along the hinge, nearly eliminating the dreaded crease in the process.

Elsewhere, the iPhone Fold is expected to feature a passport-style, wide form factor, with its primary panel measuring ~7.7 inches, and the cover display measuring ~5.4 inches.
