Rattlesnake Solutions this week shared a story involving a rattlesnake that had been hanging out in a garage but was unable to warn residents when they got too close because it had been missing its rattle. Fortunately, nobody was bitten.

From the Phoenix-based Rattlesnake Solutions: “The homeowners had been noticing things knocked over in [the garage] recently, so this is not the culprit they’d expected.

“They were surprised such a large snake hadn’t rattled at them … but that mystery was also solved. It’s missing its rattle entirely, including the last segment, so this snake is unable to give its characteristic warning.”

The snake, stretched out atop garage clutter in the second image, was captured and released in suitable habitat nearby.

The rattlesnake is a western diamondback, and it’s not clear how it lost its rattle.
