Losing star forward Jayson Tatum to injury make the Boston Celtics a more efficient ball club. Or at least that is the point of view of the folks behind the “Thinking Basketball” YouTube channel put together a clip taking a closer look at the so-called “Ewing Theory,” which attempts to argue that teams sometimes actually get better in the wake of losing a star player as Boston did when the St. Louis native went down injured with an Achilles tear in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Is there any credence to such a point of view? Is this outcome with Boston attributable to something else? Could changing up how Boston plays on the offensive side of the court a major factor in the Celtics success so far this season?
