Everything’s bigger in Texas, right?

Including the way start-up NCAA college football programs get rolling.

Burgeoning NCAA D-II program Texas A&M-TexArkana, which already tabbed coaching veteran Joshua Eargle to get the program off the ground, is making a flurry of staff hires, FootballScoop has learned.

Per sources with direct knowledge, Eargle is tabbing Brock Caraboa to run the Texas A&M-TexArkana defense. While he’s worked previously with Eargle, Caraboa also, like Eargle, has previous Power Conference coaching experience at the University of Kansas.

Additionally, Caraboa also has coached at Football Championship Subdivision program North Alabama as well as at the NAIA level, where he was a FootballScoop Coach of the Year nominee.

Eargle’s additional hires, per sources, include Jourdan McNeil of Football Bowls Subdivision program UTEP as well as Richard Hutchings from Arkansas Tech, who also previously worked at North Alabama.

With 30 games under his belt in the Lone Star State as a head coach, Eargle is tasked with launching the new program — which will kick off its existence on the field in fall 2027.

Eargle’s previously coaching stints, aside from running the program at East Texas Baptist, include assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Memphis, Florida International University (FIU) and, most recently, on Scotty Walden’s UTEP Miners staff.

He’s also coached at Southeastern Conference program LSU, as well as LSU and Nicholls.

McNeil’s coached previously with Eargle at both UTEP and Football Championship Subdivision program Austin Peay. Hutchings also had previously coached with Eargle.

Texas A&M-TexArkana is set to compete in the Lone Star Conference. The school has announced plans to construct its own football stadium and intends to have the facility open for competition by the 2028 season, per university releases.
