Manchester United’s new coaching staff is an odd mix, featuring Jonathan Woodgate.
Michael Carrick’s appointment was hastily put together by Manchester United after sacking Ruben Amorim at the start of the year.
And yet the combination of Jonny Evans, Travis Binnion, Steve Cooper and Jonathan Woodgate appear to have stuck gold, one game in.
Carrick’s coaching team were able to put together a tactical masterclass that exposed Manchester City with a 2-0 win that felt more like a 6-0 performance.
And amid the chaos, we saw the bizarre sight of Jonathan Woodgate losing his mind celebrating a Manchester United victory.

Jonathan Woodgate wearing a Manchester United jacket just looks odd.
He was a Leeds United trainee when he broke through as a footballer, representing the good and the bad of their talented team in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
He later had spells at Real Madrid, Newcastle and Tottenham, in a career plagued by injuries.
Football can be a strange game and fan rivalries have to be set aside – just ask his former Leeds teammate Alan Smith who swapped Leeds for Manchester United in 2004.
Woodgate must have felt a little odd himself walking through the doors at Carrington for his first day, for this very different role as assistant manager.
But if there were any doubts about his passion and commitment, they are gone now, looking at his passionate reaction to Manchester United’s win over City.
Woodgate was seen in the stands with his fists pumped, eyes bulging, swept up in the Old Trafford joy.
It was a sight we never expected to see.
And it shows that for this short spell, Carrick’s coaching team are ‘all in’ on making their stint at Manchester United a total success.
