Watertown golf course fees could go up

  • January 19, 2026

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – When the Watertown city council meets Tuesday night, the council will have before it a proposal to raise fees at the Thompson Park golf course.

The golf course did better last year, its third year of being operated by the city, than it did in its first two years. Still, it lost $120,000.

According to the resolution, season passes would increase $25-$50, while greens fees increase $2-$3. That would put the price of an adult season pass at $825 for a city resident and $900 for someone living outside the city.

For tournaments, carts will be provided for the first 80 players. Groups or organizations wishing to hold larger tournaments will be responsible for securing any additional carts.

Council will also have before it a resolution to hire Harris Beach Murtha as the city attorney. That’s after the city’s current lawyer, Kristin Smith of Bond, Schoeneck & King, notified the city she would be discontinuing her representation of the city.

Harris Beach Murtha will charge the city between $225 and $350 an hour for lawyer services.

The vote to hire Harris Beach is a turnabout from just two years ago, when a divided council opted to end its relationship with the firm.
