The Dolphins have their man.

Miami is hiring Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their new head coach, according to multiple reports.

The 46-year-old Hafley, who was among the hot coordinator targets during this hiring cycle, completed his second interview with the team on Monday.

He is the second major hire Miami has made out of the Packers organization this offseason after naming Green Bay’s vice president of player personnel, Jon-Eric Sullivan, as its new GM earlier this month.

Hafley was hired as the Packers defensive coordinator in 2024 and spent two seasons working under Matt LeFleur. Green Bay’s defense dealt with plenty of injuries this season, including star Micah Parsons tearing his ACL, and finished 11th and 12th in points allowed. It was a slight downturn from being sixth and fifth, respectively, a year ago. Green Bay’s season was ended in the divisional round by the Bears after an epic fourth-quarter collapse.

Hafley’s only experience as a head coach came at Boston College from 2020-23. He led the Eagles to a 22-26 record during his four seasons. His NFL experience includes stints as the defensive backs coach for the Buccaneers, Browns and 49ers.

He takes over a Dolphins team that finished 7-10 and fired coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons. McDaniel made the playoffs during his first two seasons with the team that still has some talented players but a big question at quarterback with Tua Tagovaliloa. He signed a four-year, $221.4 million extention $167.17 million guaranteed) in July 2024

The Alabama product took a step back this season, throwing for 2,660 yards, 20 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and his worst QB rating since his rookie season at 88.5.

It’s not on Hafley and Sullivan to revamp the roster and get Miami back to the playoffs.
