President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that he has not spoken to French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer since his overnight Truth Social posts.

“No, I haven’t, but I think I get along very well with them,” he told reporters at the White House, adding, “They get a little bit rough when they’re, you know, when I’m not around, but when I’m around they treat me very nicely.”

The president posted about the leaders of the United Kingdom and France on social media overnight. He accused the UK of “stupidity” over its its plan to hand over ownership of the Chagos Islands, including the US air base on Diego Garcia, to Mauritius.

“The UK giving away extremely important land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding that it was “another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired.”

The president also posted a text message from Macron on his Truth Social page.

“My friend, we are totally in line on Syria, we can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” Macron’s message began, before going on to suggest he could host a meeting of G7 leaders in Paris on Thursday.

Macron gave a thinly veiled critique of Trump’s foreign policy at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, warning of a world “where international law is trampled under foot.”

Later today, Trump heads to Davos, where he said he will meet with “the various parties” over Greenland.
