(WLOS) — Parts of western North Carolina experienced a dazzling display of the northern lights on the night of Monday, January 19.

In North Carolina, the aurora borealis often appears in a faint green or purple color and is better seen through a long-exposure camera.

Monday night’s aurora was reported as far south as Alabama.
