Indianapolis woman charged with threatening to kill Rep. Mace

  • January 21, 2026

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The United States Attorney’s Office said an Indiana woman has been charged with allegedly threatening to kill Rep. Nancy Mace and blow up the Congressional office last year.

Shayla Addison, 28, of Indianapolis, is charged with two counts of influencing a federal official by threat.

Addison allegedly sent five text messages to the representative’s phone on Jan. 15, 2025, just before 9 a.m. The messages included explicit threats to kill Mace, including statements such as “Come outside, b**** we’ll kill you” and “Tread lightly,” according to documents.

She sent more messages to her email address a few minutes later, threatening to kill her. The messages state, “We will kill you and blow that whole building up, b**** come outside.” Later that day, Addison posted threatening comments on Mace’s Instagram page including Shut up h** I’ll kill you” and “I hope you got mace… cause you gone need it.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Capitol Police investigated the incident.

“The threat was that if I went outside, there would be a bomb that would blow me up and my employees and so I am very grateful to the FBI for taking this threat seriously,” Mace said in a video in response of the incident.

Addison faces up to ten years in federal prison.
