EATON RAPIDS, Mich. — An owl rescued in December was sadly euthanized.

Winter, the great horned owl rescued in South Haven Township, was euthanized due to a foot injury that wasn’t healing, according to Wildside Rehabilitation and Education Center, who took her in for rehabilitation.

Winter was found with a zip tie tightly wound on her ankle, which Wildside Rehabilitation and Education Center said cut off circulation to her foot for too long.

Despite receiving twice-daily treatment, the foot became necrotic and died.

Without her foot, Winter would not have been able to perform essential movements, including perching and tearing her food.

Although the end result is not what the rescuers desired, they made sure Winter was loved with plenty of treats, warmth, and was pain-free until the end.
