Michael Carrick saw Diogo Dalot’s glaring weaknesses in Manchester United’s derby win, but he might have just spotted a replacement already at Carrington.

While the majority of the Manchester United team had their game of the season so far to inspire a win over Manchester City, Diogo Dalot didn’t impress.

Dalot was wasteful in possession, getting picked out on Monday Night Football by Thierry Henry for the mistakes he made to spoil good moments throughout the game.

Michael Carrick won’t have had immediate plans to replace him, but after watching United’s U21 side beat Sporting CP, the head coach might have had ideas about one player.

It might leave Dalot concerned.

Jaydan Kamason should be playing for Manchester United already at Diogo Dalot’s expense

On Tuesday night, Carrick was watching the United U21s as James Scanlon and Jayce Fitzgerald stood out.

However, another standout was Jaydan Kamason, with the right back shining as usual, looking completely at home at this level and too good for academy football.

Kamason is ready to offer competition to Diogo Dalot at right-back, which might be something Carrick is keen on, considering how poor the Portuguese international was against City.

Over the past year, Kamason has been a regular fixture in first team training, and the display he had in front of Carrick surely means he will soon be involved again.

This coming weekend against Arsenal might be a possibility, as United have granted Noussair Mazraoui additional leave following his AFCON final defeat, which should see Kamason at least training with the senior squad.

Kamason has proven he’s ready for more at United, and Carrick should now put that faith in him as competition for Dalot, putting pressure on the number two and surely leaving him petrified of the talent possessed by the 18-year-old.

Michael Carrick has solutions to his biggest issues in the academy right now

United look very unlikely to make a signing in January; however, the squad does need reinforcement.

Kamason would be a solution at right-back to provide depth for a struggling Dalot and Mazraoui, who has a questionable injury record.

But other positions are similar, with Fitzgerald a perfect midfield option for Carrick, demonstrating how brilliant he is on the ball. Meanwhile, Jim Thwaites and Jacob Devaney are also ready to step up for United.

Scanlon is one attacking option on the left if Carrick needs an alternative to Patrick Dorgu, while in the 10 or right wing, we might see plenty more of Shea Lacey.

United is a club built on youth, and now Carrick needs to bring back the roots.
