WESTPHALIA, Mich. (WILX) – A 50-year-old man and his 5-year-old granddaughter have died after falling into a private pond in Clinton County, according to police.
Clinton County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a pond in the 9000 block of Clintonia Road in Westphalia Township shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
An initial investigation found that a UTV occupied by the 50-year-old and his granddaughter broke through the ice on the pond, according to police.
Both the man and the girl were pulled from the water and taken to the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow, where they later died from their injuries.
The man was identified as 50-year-old Eric Miles from Portland. The identity of the child will not be released.
