The Cleveland Browns appear to have lost out on one of the top head coaching candidates on the market.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter will not interview for the Browns’ head coach opening on Thursday as scheduled. Sources told Cabot that Minter’s decision to skip the scheduled interview is “likely because he feels like he has other [head coaching] opportunities that are more certain.”
Minter reportedly had a second interview with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, and he also met with the Las Vegas Raiders for the second time the day before that.
After following head coach Jim Harbaugh from Michigan to Los Angeles in 2024, Minter has quickly become a rising star in the coaching ranks.
He presided over a Chargers defense that led the NFL in scoring defense last season at 17.7 points allowed per game and ranked fifth in the league this season with just 285.2 total yards allowed per game.
The Browns are hoping to find a strong replacement for former head coach Kevin Stefanski, who has since been hired as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately for Cleveland, the top options available are starting to run out.
It sounds like Minter could be on the verge of becoming the next head coaching hire on the carousel this year, but it won’t be with the Browns.
