Sometimes animals can be a little too friendly with one another, and Ivy Gardner recently shared the perfect example on TikTok. She posted a short video of one of her baby horses attempting to befriend an emu, and it’s hands-down one of the cutest things you’ll see today.
The clip shows the emu hanging out in the barn near the horse stalls, and we have a sneaking suspicion the colt chased him in there. You can almost hear the baby horse saying, “Let’s play!” while the emu is clearly thinking, “Absolutely not.” The emu makes a quick escape, with the clueless little horse happily trotting right after him.
We got tired just watching Ivy’s video! If we had to guess, we’d say that this is a regular occurrence because the little horse can’t take a hint! She joked in the video’s caption what the colt was probably thinking, “Is this my new friend? LOL!”

Funny Reactions to the Overly Friendly Colt
People got a kick out of watching the horse try to befriend the emu, and we laughed at some of the comments. Like @Jenny_has_animals pointed out, “Emu: “Let’s see if we can get the vet to visit today! Follow me!’”
@Abby Booher joked, “Be seriously careful. Running after an emu can cause the horse to grow wings.” Another commenter added, “I think I’m going to get a party chicken for my colt now.”
Commenter @Caileigh MacKay pointed out, “He somehow trots like the emu runs if that makes sense…” In some way, it does!
We laughed when @Ponykeeper shared, “1) That TROT!!! 2) This is 100% a terrible idea, but I’m here for it. I need more, actually. How FUN. LOL!”
@Bri Leigh spoke for all of us when she said, “That trot is fabulous! You gotta keep us updated on the friendship!” No new videos of the two have been posted yet, but we’re going to keep checking back because we have to know whether the colt ever successfully wins the emu over!
