Home wild cards James McCabe and Li Tu sprang a second-round shock at the Australian Open on Friday, defeating top seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool 7-6(5), 6-4.

The British pair, which claimed Year-End ATP Doubles No. 1 presented by PIF honours last year, was one of four seeded teams to exit the men’s doubles tournament on Friday.

Sixth seeds Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski, who formed a new partnership at the beginning of the season, made it safely through to the third round by defeating Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-2. Americans Robert Cash and JJ Tracy also advanced with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Marcelo Demoliner and Jean-Julien Rojer.

Singles stars Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp defeated Matthew Ebden and Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-3 and will next meet Harrison and Skupski. Van de Zandschulp will continue his singles quest on Saturday against Novak Djokovic, with their Lexus ATP Head2Head series tied at 1-1.
