Just a bump in the boost clock won’t guarantee improved performance in every application, but we await newer BIOS updates from AMD.

Redditors Test Out Their Ryzen 7 9850X3D Units; One User Reaches 900+ FPS in CS2 and Other Reports Similar Synthetic Performance as 9800X3D

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D officially launches for $499 on January 29, but some users apart from reviewers, have got their hands on the processor through retailers/resellers. One Redditor reports to have bought the new CPU from his local reseller at $570 and started benchmarking the CPU in various tests. He says he used the latest BIOS from MSI that was released in December, 2025 which helped him with getting over the compatibility issues for the new CPU.

A forum post by user 'dobum' states, stock bios settings (only with expo enabled) Cinebench 2026, Single Thread: 568.

The OP user u/dobum reports that on stock BIOS settings and PBO enabled, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D scored 568 points in single-thread in Cinebench 2026. This is the same score the Ryzen 7 9800X3D achieves in the test, which technically puts the 9850X3D on the same level. The single-core and multi-thread scores are unknown, but one shouldn’t see any significant gains. That said, it should be kept in mind that motherboard vendors will be rolling out newer BIOS updates for the CPUs before the CPU releases, which offers better compatibility and optimizations. This should help the processor deliver better performance than what we are seeing in the early benchmarks.

Another user u/kronoseedlc said that he wasn’t able to achieve 5.7 GHz on all cores no matter what he did. He reports using the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi motherboard with the latest AGESA PI pre-1.3.0.0 BIOS. This BIOS version technically supports newer Ryzen chips, but doesn’t guarantee 100% stability, and therefore, it’s probably why the CPU can’t boost 5.7 GHz on all cores. However, we had one user reaching 5.75 GHz on all cores recently, but the tuning settings are unknown.

That said, some gaming tests were also conducted by u/kronoseedlc, which revealed that the Ryzen 9850X3D was able to achieve 900+ average FPS in Counter-Strike 2, when paired with the GeForce RTX 5090. Reaching such high numbers is possible even with Ryzen 9800X3D and 7800X3D. So, not much can be concluded here, but we will be updating you guys when the review embargo lifts.
