The Washington Capitals finally got the first win of their season-long six-game road trip (1-2-0), defeating the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Friday. Now, they’re in Edmonton for a scheduled loss against the Oilers.
The Oilers come into the game losers of two straight in regulation, but are 5-3-2 over their last 10. After a tough start to the season, the Oilers have surged into second place in the Pacific Division. Connor McDavid continues to be Connor McDavid. He’s second in points (85) and goals (30).
The Capitals will come into puck drop with the same lines from last night. Charlie Lindgren will get the start and oppose Connor Ingram on the other end.
Puck drop for today’s game is scheduled for a little after 10 pm. Today’s game is on Monumental Sports Network. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin have the call.

1st Period
Puck is dropped. Protas-Sourdif-Wilson and Fehervary-Carlson get the start for the Capitals.
Charlie Lindgren goes to the full splits to stop Matthew Savoie wide open in front of the net on his backhand.
Martin Fehervary draws a penalty as he skates hard up the ice trying to win a puck battle along the sideboards. Vasily Podkolzin to the box for interference at 3:14.
Justin Sourdif misses badly with a pass from behind the Oilers’ net and sends it all the way down the ice to Charlie Lindgren while on the power play. Lost about 15-20 seconds of power-play time there.
Podkolzin with a breakaway coming out of the penalty box.
Isaac Howard with a breakaway, another huge save by Lindgren.
Capitals have no shots through the first 12:00 minutes.
Podkolzin curls across the middle of the ice and Lindgren is forced to make another huge save.
Capitals still don’t have a shot 19:00 minutes in.

Aliaksei Protas bangs home a rebound after their first shot on goal at 19:32.
🚨
1-1 tie
Goal: Aliaksei Protas (18). Assists: R. Sandin (15), T. Wilson (23). Time: 19:34
Rasmus Sandin gets his shoulder smashed in the corner, then he blocks a puck off the inside of his left knee. Ouch.
At intermission: The game’s tied 1-1. Edmonton leads in shots 9-2.
Fun fact:
The Caps 1st shot on goal against EDM came at 19:32 of the 1st, when Rasmus Sandin put a wrist shot on net from 29ft away. Aliaksei Protas then scored on the rebound – their 2nd & final shot of the period.
According to MNST, the Caps have never gone an entire period w/o a shot

2nd Period
Rasmus Sandin has not returned for the start of the period.
Puck is dropped.
Sandin returns to the bench about a minute late into the period.
Capitals already have two shots in the period’s first 80 seconds.
Leon Draisaitl to the box for interference at 1:30.
MNST shows Sandin in pain at the bench after a shift. He’s standing up at the bench because he’s in too much pain to sit down.
Caps can’t do anything on the period.
Bouchard sends a wrister from the point off Lindgren’s glove and in. He has to have that.
🚨
2-1 Edmonton Oilers
Goal: Evan Bouchard (13). Assists: L. Draisaitl (43), C. McDavid (56). Time: 4:13
Matthew Savoie tripped by Lindgren — he just skated over Lindgren’s stick as he made a save — and the Oilers go to the power play at 4:36.
Oilers did everything but score on that power play. Holy moly. You can see why they have the game’s best power play currently.
After a great chip up the boards by Lapierre, Sourdif skates down and rips a shot from the left circle short side. Ingram was expecting Sourdif to pass. Great shot.
🚨
2-2 tie
Goal: Justin Sourdif (11). Assists: H. Lapierre (7), C. McMichael (22). Time: 6:50
Rasmus Sandin leaves the game and goes back down to the locker room.
Darnell Nurse wins a race for an icing call, but no call, he’s screaming at officials and we’re picking up the loud f-bombs on MNST.
Caps take the puck down the ice. Horrible pass by Carlson into the skates of Beauvillier, but Beauvi’s shot beats Ingram five hole after the shot deflects off an Oilers leg and in.
Ingram is being replaced by Tristan Jarry in net.
Connor McDavid gets high-sticked by Matt Roy no call.
Appears to be a makeup call here – Caps get whistled for too many men on the ice at 16:09.
Hyman robbed at the goal line by Lindgren’s right pad.
Caps kill the power play.
Jarry stops Ethen Frank on a breakaway.
Jakob Chychrun to the box for slashing Isaac Howard at 18:57. Another Oilers power play.
At intermission: The Capitals lead 3-2. Caps lead in shots 22 to 15. The Oilers will have 57 seconds of power-play time to start the third period.
Another fun fact:
The Capitals haven’t won back-to-back games since the first week of December. https://t.co/c9rBjBe8ST
They lead the Oilers 3-2 headed into the third period.
