There is bravery, and then there is… um… whatever this is.
In the clip, a teeny Yorkie-Chihuahua mix named Maya finds herself face to face with a giant black bear in what looks like a cozy cabin-style room. The only problem is that the bear is taxidermy and Maya doesn’t care even a little bit. She is barking at it like she has been personally wronged, hopping up and down, fully convinced that this bear needs to understand the situation immediately.
And the situation is that Maya is in charge here.
@mayathechorkie shared the adorable video on TikTok, and people couldn’t get over the size difference or Maya’s complete lack of fear. One commenter joked, “She’s so tough. That bear is frozen in fear,” which honestly tracks. Another added, “Oh, thank God we’re safe,” because clearly Maya has handled it.

Some viewers leaned into the humor even more. One person said, “He’s not actually taxidermied, he just knows better than to move,” while another warned, “Better recognize that the bear don’t want no smoke.” A particularly accurate comment read, “It’s always the Chihuahuas who would take on a bear. Nothing beats that fighting spirit.”
What really sells it is how small she is. Maya looks like she could fit in a small purse, yet she is acting like the guardian of the entire universe. The bear may be massive, but Maya’s confidence is way bigger.
What Is Small Dog Syndrome?
Small dog syndrome is a term often used to describe when small dogs display big, bold, sometimes overconfident behavior. It’s not actually a medical condition, but more of a personality and perception thing. This definition fits our own Pomeranian perfectly. It’s not actually a great behavior to see in smaller pups, but a trainer can help you work with your dog on it.
Smaller dogs like Chihuahuas and Yorkies often have no idea how tiny they are. They may bark more, act more protective, or show fearless behavior around much larger animals or objects. In many cases, it is simply confidence mixed with a strong bond to their environment or people.
Maya is a perfect example. She is not scared. She is alert. She is convinced this bear needs to be addressed. And honestly, it’s hard not to respect that level of commitment. I wouldn’t mess with Maya!
