A key first-team Manchester United player showed an essential requirement from Ruben Amorim during the 2-1 win over West Ham in the pre-season tie on Sunday.

Premier League sides Manchester United and West Ham were both in action at the MetLife Stadium on the weekend, which was held in East Rutherford in New Jersey.

The Red Devils picked up their first victory on their pre-season tour after Bruno Fernandes’ stunning brace ensured United came out on top over West Ham.

Jarrod Bowen did find the back of the net for the Hammers in the second half, but Graham Potter’s men were unable to rally back against the Red Devils on Sunday.

United’s encounter with West Ham was the first of three matches that the Red Devils will play in the United States across July and August for their pre-season campaign.

The Red Devils will compete in two more Premier League Summer Series matches before their final clash of the tour on 9th August against Fiorentina at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils impressed against West Ham and Ruben Amorim saw a big improvement from Manchester United’s 0-0 draw vs Leeds United earlier this month.

United played a lacklustre encounter against Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Sweden and the Red Devils lacked the clinical finishing in the final third.

Following United’s pre-season opener against Leeds in Solna, the Red Devils switched their focus to the Premier League Summer Series in the States.

Matthijs de Ligt played in the three-man backline of Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for United against West Ham and the defender looked solid with his showing.

The 25-year-old Dutchman was on the pitch for 66 minutes before United manager Amorim hooked off Matthijs de Ligt and replaced him with Harry Maguire in the tie.

Harry Robinson reported for Manchester United’s official website that De Ligt was “particularly vocal” as the central defender, which has been key for Amorim.

Manuel Ugarte’s message from Ruben Amorim shows why Matthijs de Ligt’s vocal presence was so important vs West Ham

According to Harry Robinson, Matthijs de Ligt was showing his vocal presence when United were rolling out the “pressing drills” from their Chicago training in the match.

Manuel Ugarte also spoke out about Amorim after the West Ham match at the MetLife Stadium and the vital instruction from the 40-year-old United manager now.

“Communication is important,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

Amorim is clearly changing the tone on the pitch during matches and United fans could hear more players being vocal during the upcoming pre-season friendlies.

United will now be back in action against fellow Premier League side Bournemouth on Thursday, with the Red Devils playing at the Soldier Field in Chicago.
