Indiana’s defensive line got a major boost on Saturday when Tyrique Tucker announced he was returning to the Hoosiers for his final year of eligibility.

The 6-foot and 302-pound Tucker earned third-team All-America by the Associated Press in 2025, and was tabbed first-team All-Big Ten by the conference media and coach panels.

After playing in a reserve role in 2024, Tucker started all 16 games for the national champs in 2025.

Tucker had six sacks and 12 tackles for loss from his interior position in 2025.  He had 40 total tackles and two pass breakups.

Tucker’s return ensures continuity in the middle of IU’s defensive front, as fellow starter Mario Landino also announced his return to Indiana for 2026.

The Hoosiers have also added interior defensive linemen Chiddi Obiazor (Kansas State) and Joe Hjelle (Tulsa) via the transfer portal over the last few weeks to help form what should be a strength of the 2026 roster.

Indiana did lose both Hosea Wheeler and J’Mari Monette along the interior via the portal, along with Dominique Ratcliff, who is out of eligibility.
