Police Chief J.H. Thompson reported seeing eight cars on his way into work this morning — three of them were in a ditch, two in a collision. City Manager Shannon Lavrin reports seeing people sledding and walking in the streets downtown. This is incredibly dangerous. People could get hit by a plow. It also prevents our crews from treating the streets.Firefighters responded to two serious accidents overnight.While City parks are not closed, with the exception of Timmons, Parks and Recreation leaders strongly encourage residents to stay home and not use parks for sledding and walking as we have not been able to assess conditions or properly treat sidewalks and trails. Looks like that last round or heavy freezing rain had a big effect on the County, as Duke Energy is reporting more than 11,000 outages at 5:15pm.
