On Republic Day 2026, Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel extended greetings to the nation, recalling the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, and underscoring the need to safeguard its principles.
Baghel said that the implementation of the Constitution marked the moment when Indians became citizens of a republic and were granted constitutional rights. He congratulated the people of the country on the occasion, describing the day as a reminder of India’s democratic foundations.
He also cautioned against attempts to weaken or alter the Constitution, stating that citizens must remain vigilant. Baghel alleged that the BJP and the RSS have repeatedly attacked constitutional values and said he did not trust them on this issue.
The Congress leader added that protecting the Constitution was a collective responsibility and called on all citizens to remain committed to defending its ideals of democracy, rights and equality.
