Deion Sanders is looking to set a clear tone as he approaches his fourth season as head coach at Colorado.
During his first team meeting of 2026, Coach Prime laid out the ground rules for his players. Son Deion Jr. shared a video of the speech online, and a slide is shown for a brief moment at the 18:49 mark detailing monetary fines for violations of team policy.
Showing up late to practice will cost you $500. Failing to attend practice is worth $2,500, and not showing up for a team meeting or film session is marginally lower ($2,000). Four-figure penalties result from being late to conditioning/treatment or no-showing entirely.
In general, the bloom has come off the rose for Sanders.
Colorado went 3-9 in 2025 as replacing Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders was tougher than expected. In general, the program has progressed from what Coach Prime inherited, but the on-field product still isn’t matching the hype.
While his job never appeared to be in serious jeopardy, Sanders’ comments after the season ended reflected the pressure he’s under.
Based on the content of his team meeting, Sanders believes team discipline will be a key factor in attempting a turnaround in 2026.
