Deputies responded to a call of a man who was brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner at 5:35 p.m. in the 9800 block of Austin Drive in Spring Valley.

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — A SWAT standoff is underway in Spring Valley after a man brandished his weapon on Monday evening.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Office said that deputies responded to a call of a man who was brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner at 5:35 p.m. in the 9800 block of Austin Drive in Spring Valley. 

Despite the deputies’ efforts to get the man to get the man to comply, the man ran into a large property and would not surrender. Officials said that the man hid in a shed or a nearby trailer.

As of 8:49 p.m., the California Highway Patrol was providing traffic control and issued a road closure, shutting down westbound Austin Drive at South Barcelona Street. There was no shelter-in-place order, officials said.
