Wow. Elina Svitolina whips Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 to reach her first Australian Open semi-final in a minute short of an hour. Jelena Dokic broke the news to Svitolina that the victory also locked in her top-10 return, which the Ukrainian said was her big goal after returning from maternity leave.
“Yeah, not bad,” Svitolina said, jokingly. “I’m very pleased with the tournament so far.” Svitolina, who is married to retirement-bound French star Gael Monfils, plays dual champion and world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka next.

As good as Svitolina played, Gauff’s nightmare performance was perplexing. The American world No.3 hit only three winners but amassed 26 unforced errors, which is an atrocious ratio. It’s no wonder she took out her frustration on her racquet after leaving the fans’ sight.
