Officials say the mountain lion is hunkered down in a garden or courtyard area behind a black fence in between two apartment buildings. California Street between Laguna and Octavia Streets has been blocked off.
The mountain lion had been caught on video near Lafayette Park on Sunday night.
Experts believe it is young, at about a year old, and got a bit lost.
Mountain lions disperse around this age, seeking a habitat far away from their birthplace.
