NORFOLK, Neb. (KOLN) – A Norfolk man was arrested Monday morning after police said he broke into two homes, stole a vehicle and demanded money.
The Norfolk Police Division was called to a home near South 24th Street and West Madison Avenue at 9:16 a.m. on a report of a burglary in progress. The caller witnessed a man kicking in the door of a nearby home.
Officers arriving in the area conducted a traffic stop on a white Nissan Sentra that appeared to be leaving the scene
Police said the driver, 38-year-old Terry Bynog, was taken into custody after resisting officers’ attempts to detain him. Bynog reportedly showed signs of alcohol impairment during the struggle.
Police said Bynog refused standardized field sobriety tests and damaged equipment inside a patrol vehicle during his arrest.
His passenger in the Nissan was also detained without incident and later determined to be a victim.
An investigation revealed Bynog had forcibly entered a home earlier that morning, threatened the person inside and stole their vehicle, police said. The home reportedly had damage consistent with forced entry.
Officers also spoke with a resident in the second home and determined that Bynog forcibly entered the home, demanded money and fled prior to police arrival. The front door also had damage consistent with forced entry.
Bynog was taken to the Madison County Jail and is facing multiple charges.
