The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated this Tuesday that he is expected to travel in early March to Washington for a face-to-face meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

‘And I hope to schedule with President Trump; in early March I will make a trip to Washington,’ Lula told journalists in Panama, where he will participate in the International Economic Forum of Latin America.

‘I think that two heads of state need to talk eye to eye so that we can discuss the good relations between Brazil and the United States,’ he added.

On the eve, the two presidents spoke for about 50 minutes by phone, during which they addressed Lula’s visit to the U.S., the situation in Venezuela and the so-called Peace Council proposed by the United States, in addition to the fight against organized crime, according to a note from the Brazilian government.

On the same day, a source heard by Reuters had reported that the most likely timing for the visit was in March. According to the source, negotiations for a specific date should begin in the coming days.

Regarding Venezuela, Lula said this Tuesday that ‘a little patience is needed because the one who will find a solution for the Venezuelan people is the Venezuelan people themselves; it will not be Brazil, it will not be the United States, it will be Venezuela’.
