A familiar name in Alabama sports — and a familiar face around Florence — picked up a promotion Wednesday.
North Alabama football announced multiple staff moves, with Vincent “Bo” Jackson being promoted to outside linebackers coach on Brent Dearmon’s staff at UNA.
While he shares a name with former Auburn star and College Football Hall of Famer Bo Jackson, Dearmon said Jackson’s “great deal of pride” in UNA is one of the qualities that make him stand out.
“I am thrilled to announce the addition of Bo Jackson as our outside linebackers coach,” the UNA head coach said in a release. “Adding another UNA Lion to the staff was important to me.”
Other additions to the UNA staff include Clint Bowen (defensive coordinator, assistant head coach), Colby Ellis (wide receivers coach) and Max Halpin (offensive line coach, run game coordinator).
Jackson, a native of Demopolis, is a UNA graduate and lettered for the Lions in 2005-07 under Mark Hudspeth, who is now the head coach at Gulf Shores High School.
He helped the Lions compile a 44-8 record during his time as a player.
Jackson has also spent time on staff at Sheffield High School as defensive coordinator. He was a Class 4A All-State honorable mention as a senior at Demopolis.
“The level of excitement being on this UNA staff is a dream come true,” Jackson said. “The staff that Coach Dearmon has assembled is top-notch, and I am excited to work with a group of men that are on the same page as I am. We are in the business of turning young men into better men on and off the field. This staff has a lot of knowledge amongst the years of FBS and FCS coaching experience that will make us a better team this upcoming season.
“The love I have for UNA goes back 20 years ago when I first stepped on campus as a young freshman. Playing for this university from ’05 to ’08 was some wonderful years of my life, and now I have the opportunity to coach on this staff — it’s a dream come true. UNA was already a part of my life as a young adult, and now UNA will forever be near and dear to my heart.”
North Alabama finished 2-10 overall last season and 1-7 in United Athletic Conference play. The Lions will open the 2026 season against Samford on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.
