MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — A young gray fox in Monterey County is on the road to recovery after being rescued by compassionate neighbors and skilled SPCA wildlife rescuers.
The fox, which had a corrugated pipe stuck tightly around its neck, was safely trapped by people living in the Corral de Tierra neighborhood, using syrup-soaked bread as bait.

SPCA rescuers sedated the fox and removed the pipe, revealing multiple deep wounds.
The fox was then taken to the Avian and Exotic Clinic of Monterey for surgery to clean and suture the injuries.
The fox is resting comfortably and receiving antibiotics, pain medication, fluids, and nutritious meals.
It will remain in care for several weeks until fully healed and ready to return to the wild.
The SPCA, the only full-service wildlife rescue in Monterey County, relies on donor support to continue its lifesaving work for thousands of wild animals each year.
