MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) — A suspected gunman has shot and killed himself in a Midtown Manhattan office building after shooting an NYPD officer and a civilian Monday evening in the lobby, according to police sources.
The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. at 345 Park Ave., which is the building that contains offices for Blackstone and the NFL headquarters. The building is under lockdown.
Police sources say the shooter entered the building and, while in the lobby, fired at a police officer, who was working private security at the time he was shot, and the civilian. Police sources say the shooting suspect killed himself on the 33rd floor of the building.
“At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized,” NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch posted on X.
The conditions of the victims were not immediately known. The officer was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, and the civilian was at Bellevue Hospital.
A security camera image shows the apparent shooter holding a long gun and walking outside the office building.
Officials are asking people to avoid areas near East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue due to police activity.
